A COMMUNITY and sporting pavilion will finally be built at the North Bendigo Recreation Reserve after the State Government announced it will contribute one million dollars to the project from its Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

This adds to the $1 million from the Federal Government and over $700,000 from the City of Greater Bendigo already pledged.

The pavilion will include unisex change rooms, shared club and community function space, umpires change room, canteen, administration room, storage, plus game day and publicly accessible toilets.

Golden City Football Club committee member Sean Tomlinson thanked all three levels of government for their support.

“I’ve been involved with the committee for more than 15 years and this has been a topic of conversation (since then),” he said.

“It’s been a long time and to see it finally happen means the world to all of our club members.”

Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards said she was delighted that the State’s contribution is the final piece to make stage one a reality.”There is a great spirit amongst user groups at the reserve and I know this project will deliver important community and sporting outcomes, as part of the longer-term vision identified in the master plan,” she said.

“We know that there’s more work to do, particularly with the football netball club also needing a new facility. But this is a good start.

“I think it will make a big difference to the user groups who come (here) every day of the week.”
