HEALTHY Loddon Campaspe, HLC, will be engaging in several projects across the region to encourage fitness and healthy eating.

The Victorian Government is funding the 30 projects, which began early September, across the City of Greater Bendigo, Campaspe, Central Goldfields, Loddon, Macedon Ranges, and Mount Alexander shires.

The projects in the City of Greater Bendigo include working with youth and seniors in White Hills, a beginners’ cooking program in Heathcote, and an extension of the existing Healthy Sports Clubs program in Long Gully, among others.

Healthy Loddon Campaspe coordinator Alicia O’Brien said HLC is pleased to reveal the new projects across the four local government areas.

“Data from the Active Living Census told us that 62.5 per cent of Loddon Campaspe residents are overweight or obese, and only 13 per cent of adults and 14 per cent of children meet the daily vegetable consumption guidelines,” said Ms O’Brien.

“The new round of activation projects, which are place-based and designed with local stakeholders, focus on addressing these statistics by encouraging and enabling healthy eating and physical activity.

“In addition to the multi-LGA [local government area] projects planned, we’re also excited to see the implementation of a number of innovative new projects in the region such as the Active Footpaths Project in Loddon Shire, and the Verge Gardening Project in Macedon Ranges Shire.”
