New roundabout for a safer Strathfieldsaye
CONSTRUCTION of a new roundabout at the intersection of Tannery Lane and Guys Hill Road began on Tuesday, 13 April as part of the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program.
City of Greater Bendigo presentation and assets director Brian Westley said the project will cater to traffic flow in the growing Strathfieldsaye area and respond to both fatal and minor traffic incidents at the intersection.
“This is an important project for Strathfieldsaye, which will involve the construction of a new roundabout complete with drainage, concrete kerbs, lighting, signage and line marking upgrades to improve the safety of the intersection,” he said.
Motorists will need to accommodate their travel arrangements to the project, however.
“Due to the nature of the works, there will be some inconvenience for residents with regard to traffic flow as well as vehicle access to properties and on-street parking,” Mr Westley said.
Temporary lights will also be installed at Tannery Lane, while Guys Hill Road will be closed off completely to through traffic for the project’s entirety.
“As a result, significant detour and works signage will be placed around the area and the City will work with affected residents to provide access to and from properties while the work is taking place,” Mr Westley said.
Bus route 70 will continue to operate in both directions with changed route conditions for the duration of the project, and passengers can access detailed information including alternative bus stops on the Public Transport Victoria website.
The project is expected to be completed by Saturday, 31 July.
