New train services for busy Bendigo Line
TWO services have been permanently added to the Bendigo V/Line route timetable after initially operating as weekend specials introduced to help support demand following the introduction of the regional fare cap.
On average, nearly 9400 passenger trips are taken on the Bendigo Line on weekends nowadays as passengers travel between Melbourne and Bendigo to attend major events and visit family and friends.
“Since the regional fare cap was introduced, more than 2.4 million trips have been taken on the Bendigo Line, with passengers saving more than $50 for a return trip,” Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan said.
More than 33 million train trips have been taken across the entire Victorian network with more than $90 million saved in total.
Planning is also underway for additional Saturday and Sunday night services to be introduced as part of almost 200 additional services being progressively added to the network as a whole.
“We’re adding new services across Victoria’s regional public transport network – making it easier for Victorians to get to where they need to go,” said Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams.
“We’re delivering more modern and reliable trains, and giving passengers more travel options to travel around our state.”
The new timetable will take effect on Sunday 1 December.
