ONE of Australia’s most well-known operatic sopranos, Antoinette Halloran, is coming to Bendigo to perform the first of a string of hour-long opera matinees later this month.

The singer is set to perform some of the biggest hits from many much-loved operas as well as delving into some musical theatre during the concert as part of a show titled Matinee Series: Runaway DIVA with Antoinette Halloran.

Halloran said she is excited to get to Bendigo to take part in the shorter and more intimate show.

“I like to think of it, as a bit more of a cabaret,” she said. “It’s much more relaxed and intimate and I will be able to have a chat to the audience and get the chance to tell some stories.”

Halloran said the matinees are a much more informal way to perform and are an easier viewing experience compared to a full-length opera, which sits better with some crowds today.

“It’s really just more of a relaxed way to perform and a relaxed show to watch as well,” she said.

“People don’t seem to have the same attention span these days with the way the world is, so these shows work well in that regard.”

A member of Melbourne Opera, Halloran said she is also part of that company’s cast that’ll perform Richard Wagner’s Ring Cycle at the Ulumbarra Theatre later in the year.

“I’m so excited to be able to perform the Ring Cycle in Bendigo in March,” she said.

Matinee Series: Runaway DIVA with Antoinette Halloran is set for Tuesday, 28 February at the Capital Theatre.
