ORGANISERS of Bendigo’s Way of the Cross are encouraging local actors to audition for the town’s upcoming passion play.

Tryouts for speaking roles will take place Tuesday, 8 and Wednesday 9, February at the Baptist Church in Junortoun.

Committee chair David Wright said it’s the perfect opportunity for actors to hone their craft.

“They’ll play in front of two, three, four thousand people and it’s quite a different experience but it’s great experience. It’s a great challenge for them,” he said.

The Easter production will take place outside The Capital theatre on View Street due to its Corinthian architecture.

Roads connecting to View Street will be blocked by the City of Grater Bendigo to make the event safe and enjoyable for attendees.

“People can bring their chair or stand in the street to watch the production,” Mr Wright said.

If an acting role isn’t for you, offstage production roles are also available.

“We’re looking for people to help us with makeup, costumes and set construction,” Mr Wright said. “We need people to help us with crowd control and promotion too.”

The team behind the Way of the Cross are aims to pulling out all the stops for their night of entertainment.

Musician, Father Rob Galea, will accompany the show with a live performance.

“We want this to be a really spectacular production,” Mr Wright said.
