THE State Government is inviting locals to have their say on how our region’s parks and green spaces can be improved via the first phase of the thirty-million-dollar Pick My Park program.
The program is targeting areas undergoing high rates of new home builds, including Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong, with parks and open spaces considered essential for public health and community connection.
From creating a new ‘pocket’ park in an urban space, improving a playground, adding outdoor fitness equipment, or making accessibility upgrades, to new shade and seating, all ideas are welcomed to create spaces that connect communities.
Ideas from the community will be shared with park and land managers to help shape project proposals, before Victorians are invited to vote on the proposals that will receive a share of funding.
Winning projects will receive grants from $20,000 to $250,000 for park upgrades that focus on improving existing parks and open spaces, and new urban parks that will transform underused land into new green spaces for the whole community to enjoy.
“Pick your park, share your ideas,” said Minister for Development Victoria and Precincts Harriet Shing.
“We know how important parks are for communities for connecting with their friends, neighbours and family, so we want to hear what matters to you.
“The Pick My Park program will target precincts and areas that are building more homes because as we continue to grow, we need to grow well, which includes delivering vibrant parks for our communities.”
To get involved, visit the Engage Victoria website, drop a pin on the map and complete a short survey to submit ideas for a local park.
