Police bust alleged Bendigo car theft network

TWO men have been charged following a police operation targeting an alleged car theft ring in Central Victoria.
Officers from the Bendigo Divisional Response Unit executed a search warrant at a Bendigo motel on Wednesday, arresting the pair as part of an ongoing investigation.
During the search, investigators allegedly located a stolen Toyota along with a quantity of methamphetamine, about $13,000 in cash, prescription medications, a police identity badge and electronic items believed to be used in organised vehicle theft.
Police allege the items are linked to a broader network involved in stealing and trafficking vehicles across the region.
A 19-year-old man from Long Gully has been charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine and dealing in the proceeds of crime.
A 31-year-old man from Jackass Flat has been charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine, dealing in the proceeds of crime, four counts of motor vehicle theft and possessing Victoria Police identification without authorisation.
Both men were remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear before Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on 23 April.
