CITY of Greater Bendigo staff are reminding residents that rate payments have been adjusted for 2024/2025.

If rates weren’t paid in full by 30 September they’ll now have to be paid in quarterly instalments by default.

About 10,000 people are yet to pay the September instalment with the next one due on 2 December.

COGB director corporate performance Jessica Howard encouraged residents to reach out to the City if they were unable to pay.

“By speaking with us now, our staff can help ratepayers find other suitable payment options that are smaller and regular, including the option to set up a regular direct debit for instalment amounts that can be deducted fortnightly or monthly,” she said.

“We understand it is a challenging time financially for some people, however rates are essential to supporting the City to deliver a range of services to the community.”

Ms Howard also explained that the City’s Financial Hardship Guidelines allow for flexible payment arrangements, including the ability to temporarily defer a payment on eligible properties.

“Please get in touch with us if you need assistance,” she said.

The Financial Hardship Guidelines are on the COGB website. Rates and charges make up around 60 per cent of the City’s income.

Money received delivers 68 services, including waste services, street cleaning, maintenance of parks, maternal health, tourism, libraries and much more.

Rates revenue also contributes to capital works including infrastructure such as footpaths, roads, flood mitigation, plus investment in community and recreational assets.
