Redevelopment works draw closer at significant venues
THE tender processes to find head contractors to lead major redevelopments of the Bendigo Stadium and Bendigo Showgrounds are now open.
Key criteria for the tenders will be a demonstrated commitment from potential contractors to using local talent, businesses, suppliers and materials.
The Bendigo Stadium is set to receive a new two-court annex, upgrades to two already existing courts, utility works including a solar installation, new lighting for the outdoor netball courts, plus carpark and accessibility works.
Its Sky Lounge events space will also receive a minor upgrade.
Upgrades to the Bendigo Showgrounds will include the construction of a new multipurpose pavilion, a redeveloped arena and upgrades to entrances and fencing.
State Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos said the redevelopments are about making sure Bendigo has world class facilities that everyone can be proud of – now and in the future.
“These exciting projects will bring friends, families and the Bendigo community together for sport, entertainment and recreation – and will help to attract even more events to the area, with those benefits flowing into the community,” he said.
Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards said the projects are a “game-changer.”
“These upgrades are…creating local jobs and boosting our region’s economy while delivering first-class facilities for our sporting and events communities and making a top destination for major events and community activities,” she said.
Expressions of interest close on Monday 21 October and can be submitted via the Buying for Victoria portal.
