Reggae event seeks to please senses
FOLLOWING the success of an African music and food celebration earlier this year, a local resident, chef, and community radio host has organised another event this weekend.
Ras Ato said an event held in May had more than 110 people attend, and he is hoping for a greater number this time.
“I want people to really enjoy the reggae music and the messaging within the music as well,” he said.
“The music makes you feel so good about yourself; Reggae music carries such a strong message full of possibility, kindness, and love as well.
“Something very important, especially now.”
Ato said the Melbourne-based reggae act Irie Band will be performing on stage, and he wanted the event to be a fusion of sound and taste.
“I normally do a radio program at the community radio called Phoenix FM, called Good Vibration, which has so many listeners tuning in,” he said.
“People tune in from everywhere, I have people even tuning in from Africa on the internet, I also have people from Bendigo, Melbourne, all around to listen to the program.
“I thought I’d put a party to celebrate, play some of the music that I play at the radio for people as well, get people to come over to taste some yummy African cuisine as well.”
The Reggae Music and Food Party will be at the Engine Room on Saturday 18 November from 4pm to 10pm.
Tickets to the event can be purchased via Gotix or at the door.
