Region recognised in tourism awards
BENDIGO and Heathcote have been announced as finalists in the inaugural Top Tourism Town awards.
Public voting is open now, with Bendigo nominated in the regional town category, and Heathcote nominated for small regional town.
The competitors for top regional town include Ballarat, Swan Hill, Dromana, Frankston and Lakes Entrance.
Acting manager for tourism and major events Jemma Docherty said it’s great to have two Greater Bendigo region towns recognised by the Victorian Tourism Industry Council.
“This is the first year the awards have been run and we are excited to be recognised not once but twice as a place that delivers amazing visitor experiences,” Ms Docherty said.
“We have a really passionate tourism industry, including attractions, accommodation and hospitality providers that are proud to offer something for people of all ages and interests.”
Bendigo will host the awards ceremony in July with around 100 to 150 people expected to attend.
Ms Docherty said the recognition is great as regional towns bounce back from COVID-19.
“After the year that was, this campaign, driven by the Victorian Tourism Industry Council, is a welcome initiative to remind Victorians of the many great places to visit and things to do in the state,” she said
“We can stay local, spend local and help our local tourism industry bounce back by supporting each other.”
Voting closes on Thursday, May 27 and all entries go in the draw to win a Melbourne getaway for two.
