THE former Metropolitan Hotel in Hargreaves Street has undergone a stunning renovation and has reopened in time for the Christmas holidays as the latest addition to the Geelong-based Sporting Globe Bar & Grill chain.

After the old Metro closed permanently in March, the building has been transformed into a streamlined modern venue ideal for local sports lovers, with 50 high-definition screens throughout and a huge LED screen in the beer garden.

Bendigo Pioneers assistant coach Leigh Stevens and his wife Bek are the local franchisees, working under the umbrella of chain owner Signature Hospitality Group.

“We’ve always been inspired by Bendigo’s sense of pride and community,” Mr Stevens said.

“This venue is a place for everyone, whether you’re here to watch live sport, share a meal with family, or celebrate a special occasion with friends.”

Signature Hospitality Group CEO James Sinclair said the company was “thrilled” to officially reopen the heritage-listed building and be part of such a “vibrant and passionate” community.

“This venue is designed to be a place where people can come together to enjoy great food, live sports, and good company,” he said.

“We’re proud to support the local economy and look forward to building lasting relationships with the Bendigo community.”

The Sporting Globe Bar & Grill is located at 224 Hargreaves Street, directly across from the Town Hall.

It is open seven days a week from 11.30am to 10pm, Sunday to Thursday, and closes at midnight on Friday and Saturday.
