State champs will have you in a spin
The 2023 Victorian Ultimate Frisbee Championships will take place at Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve this weekend for the second year in a row.
The event includes open and women’s divisions with matches taking to the field on Saturday between 9am and 12pm and 3pm and 5pm and again on Sunday from 9am to 2.30pm with the finals going from about 1pm.
General manager of Ultimate Frisbee Victoria, Simon Talbot, said people should come down and check the sport out, with free entry all weekend.
Teams from across Victoria and the Apple Isle are set to participate in the weekend long tournament.
“We have the top 12 teams from around the state competing, so it will be around 240 athletes all up,” he said.
“We have players from Melbourne, Ballarat, Geelong, Albury-Wodonga, Warrnambool, Horsham and even some from Tasmania coming over.”
For those who have no idea what ultimate frisbee is, Mr Talbot said it’s a combination of a couple of sports.
“The best way to think of it is a hybrid between netball and American football,” he said.
“Like American football you need to catch it in the endzone and like netball you can’t run with it and its non-contact.”
