HUNTLY Station will be opened a year ahead of its original 2023 completion date, according to the State Government.

Premier Daniel Andrews visited the new facility last week to announce the station, as well as a development at Raywood, will be open to passengers in mid-July.

“We promised to deliver three new stations for Bendigo and that’s exactly what we’re doing, ahead of schedule,” he said.

“Whether it’s investing in the local hospital, the law courts, TAFE or upgrading local schools, we’re delivering for Bendigo.”

Eighteen services a week will stop at the new Huntly Station from Saturday, 16 July, and 28 services will stop at Raywood each week starting Sunday, 17 July.

The works are part of the Bendigo Metro 3 project, which is  budgeted at just under $50 million and also involved the restoration of Goornong Station in December last year.

Works remaining at Huntly include final landscaping, while jobs currently being done at Raywood include car park line-marking, fencing and landscaping.

Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan said it was great to see the progress being made.

“We’ve delivered upgrades to Bendigo station, delivered new trains and delivered these three new stations to get locals home safer and sooner,” she said.

As well as the new stations, the State Government is extending the Myki ticketing zone to Raywood on the Swan Hill line and Huntly and Goornong on the Echuca line.

Timetables for the stations will be available from Friday, 1 July.

Sections of the Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill lines remain closed for upgrade works on the Sunbury line, expected to be completed on Wednesday, 29 June.
