Tapping creativity this Water Week
YOUNG artists and designers are being encouraged to get their creative juices flowing in Coliban Water’s 2024 National Water Week Poster Competition.
The annual competition asks primary school and preschool children to design a poster that promotes water-related messages and themes.
Entries can be submitted now, with a closing date of Friday 6 September. Winners will be announced during National Water Week, which runs from 21 to 27 October.
Coliban Water executive general manager of customer and stakeholder experience, Lauren McLean, said junior artists were encouraged to create a poster that reflected this year’s theme, ‘Water for all, Inspiring Action’, which focuses on the importance of clean water.
“Water is a part of everyone’s lives and inspiring people to take action to ensure a sustainable water future is an important and timely theme,” Ms McLean said.
“It’s the perfect reason for our local students to get out the paints and crayons, sharpen their pencils, and let their creativity flow.”
Coliban Water is encouraging all students from local preschools, primary schools and individual artists to take part.
“We’ve seen some terrific entries in the past and are hoping for the same again from students in our region,” Ms McLean said.
Judges will pick winners based on how well the poster reflects this year’s theme, how it communicates water-related issues, the sort of imagery and design used, whether art materials have been effectively used and the overall look of the poster.
Entries will be divided into prep/foundation, grades one and two, three and four, and five and six.
All students will receive a participation certificate, but a selection of prizes will be awarded to those judged to have the first, second and third best designs.
All participating schools will also go into a draw to win $250 towards a sustainability project. Last year’s winner, Heathcote Primary School, put its prize towards a greenhouse.
Posters should be A4 or A3 in size with high-resolution, high-quality images submitted in JPG or PNG formats.
Uploaded files are limited to 20MB. Original posters can be either scanned or photographed.
