TRIPLE M Bendigo hosts Cogho and Jules partnered with Cancer Council Victoria last week to celebrate Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.

The event was held at Omari Bendigo Botanical Gardens in White Hills.

“We were amazed at the amount of people wanting to attend, considering it was a mid-morning event,” Jules said.

“The stories we heard on the day and on air on Triple M were truly life-changing for some people.

“The exposure to the morning tea also said that people can help in their own small way.”

About 50 people attended the event, raising $391.

One Australian is diagnosed with cancer every five minutes, and 855 people in the Greater Bendigo region were diagnosed in 2023.

Every May, the Cancer Council encourages Australians to gather with their friends, family and workmates for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.

This year, the Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea initiative is aiming to raise more than $16 million to continue the Cancer Council’s life-saving cancer research, prevention, advocacy and support programs.

“Since 1993, Australians have hosted tens of thousands of morning teas and raised over $200 million, helping to fund life-saving research and vital support for those affected by cancer,” said Cancer Council NSW director of marketing and fundraising, Naomi Watson.

“With more than 24,000 hosts participating each year, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea has cemented itself as one of the country’s most successful and beloved fundraisers.

“Tackling cancer takes all of us. Together, we can turn a simple morning tea into a powerful force for change, one cup at a time.”

The event has seen millions of Australians donate, raise money and support those affected by cancer over the past 32 years.

Although Thursday 22 May is the official date to host a morning tea, individuals, community groups or businesses can host a morning tea any time in May or June.
