Teenage boy dead following collision near school

A 15-year-old boy has died after being struck by a truck near a central Bendigo school on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to High Street just after 8.30am following reports of a serious collision involving a pedestrian.

Despite the efforts of a passer-by who performed CPR, the teenager could not be saved and died at the scene.

The collision occurred near Girton Grammar School during the morning drop-off period. Roads around the campus were closed as police and emergency crews responded.

The driver of the truck was not injured and is assisting police with their investigation.

Victoria Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage is urged to contact police.

City of Greater Bendigo mayor Andrea Metcalf said the news had deeply saddened the community.

“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the child’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” Cr Metcalf said.

“We know this will have a significant impact on many, especially young people, and support services will be important in the days and weeks ahead.”
