VOLUNTEERS have been busily preparing for the Y Service Club of Bendigo’s Easter book sale.

President of the Y Club, Peter Searle, is excited by this year’s festival, as the jam-packed weekend approaches.

“A lot of people, our regular customers, have commented that they’re really looking forward to getting back to the Easter book sale again,” he said.

“It’s become an integral part of the Easter Fair and people really look forward to it, they queue around the block for it.”

About eight of the Y Club’s 23 members have been meeting twice a week to sort thousands of books into 25 different categories.

Mr Searle said while the leftover books not sold would normally be recycled, this year the club has a solution in line with its community focus.

“Every Easter we always have a large number of books left over, so unfortunately a lot of them have to go to recycling, but this year we’re going to send up a tonne of books to the Lismore Library because a lot of their books were destroyed in the flood,” he said.

The book sale is the Y Club’s main fundraiser of the year, with a second sale taking place over the AFL grand final long weekend.

The money raised allows the club to support many community organisations, including YMCA Victoria, Annie North Women’s Refuge, MADCOW Australia, Bendigo Foodshare and more.

The sale will take place at the YMCA Tom Tweed Stadium from Good Friday through to Easter Monday.
