Train derailed in Mitiamo

COACHES replaced two services from Swan Hill and Eaglehawk to Southern Cross after a freight train derailed at Mitiamo this morning.

The train came off the freight siding tracks, however blocked the main line used by Swan Hill passenger services.

The 6.55am train from Swan Hill and 7.40am train from Southern Cross were replaced by coaches, as well as the 5.35am and 6.19am trains from Eaglehawk to Southern Cross.

V/Line services are back to normal and no other changes are anticipated as a result of the incident.

No injuries were reported, however repairs on the siding are expected to take some time.

“We thank Swan Hill line and Eaglehawk passengers for their patience while we worked to get them where they needed to go following disruptions to their services this morning,” a spokesperson for V/Line said.

“Safety is our number one priority. We take all incidents seriously and will complete a full investigation into the incident at Mitiamo.”

While repairs are expected to take some time, no damage has been done to the main passenger line.
