ALMOST one thousand catchable-size rainbow trout have been released at several lakes and reservoirs around Bendigo as part of the State Government’s Go Fishing and Boating Victoria plan.

Stocking activities typically occur four times every year at about 70 family-friendly locations across Victoria ahead of the first, second and third term school holidays and before Gone Fishing Day on 13 October.

About 11.5 million fish have now been released as part of the $96 million initiative.

Crusoe Reservoir in Kangaroo Flat has been stocked with 450 advanced yearlings, Forest Lake in Kangaroo Flat received 200, while Lake Neangar in Eaglehawk received 300.

Minister for Outdoor Recreation Steve Dimopoulos said the semi-regular release is designed to promote fishing as a hobby, as it’s great social and family activity.

“We know parents are always looking for fun, low cost activities that get kids outside and into nature – so we’re providing great fishing opportunities for families right across the state,” he said.
