WORKS are underway to improve the safety of the intersection of Lily Street and Marong Road in Ironbark, adjacent to the Victoria Hill Plaza Shopping Centre which houses Toyworld, Clark Rubber, Anaconda and Spotlight.
More than $330,000 in funding delivered via the Federal Government’s 2024-25 Black Spot Program will go towards extending the kerbing at the entrance to the complex, the removal of a nearby tree and the implementation of new line marking, signs and drainage.
This is expected to help improve driver visibility and make it easier for visitors to enter and exit the centre.
Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters said Marong Road is a busy arterial road and the intersection regularly has cars entering and exiting from the plaza.
“I know from talking to locals how dangerous this section of Marong Road is and the concerns that they have had about the potential of a major accident occurring,” she said.
“These improvements will make local shoppers and everyday road users safer and reduce the risk of collisions.
“This is just one of the many road projects our government is funding to improve the safety and useability of roads in the Bendigo electorate.”
The Black Spot Program identifies road locations where crashes are occurring or are at risk of occurring and provides funding for a range of safety measures, including raised crossings, speed humps and improved kerbing.
