Water storages above 2022 marks

THREE of Coliban Water’s Reservoirs are currently holding higher volumes than at the same time last year.

Coliban executive general manager of strategy Jarrah O’Shea said the high storage levels are good for long-term outlooks and the catchments had seen good rainfall during autumn.

“We received 210 milometers of rain at Malmsbury,” he said. “Which is similar to last year and well above the long-term average.

“Overall, we are holding 3.3 gigalitres more in storage than at the same time last year.

“These reserves place us in a very good position for this time of the year with a favourable outlook for the seasons ahead.”

The Lauriston, Malmsbury and Coliban Reservoirs are at 80 percent capacity while the water utility’s portion of Lake Eppalock was at 94 per cent.

However, Mr O’Shea said there was still a need to conserve the resource and follow water-saving rules.

“These rules are in place across our region and everything we do to conserve water, even in the cooler months, helps overall water security,” he said.
