Week all about getting active
WOMEN and girls of all ages and abilities are encouraged to be active during September’s This Girl Can Week.
The VicHealth initiative is facilitated by Sports Focus, Bendigo Community Health Services and the City of Greater Bendigo, and involves opportunities such as tennis, yoga, bush walks, personal training and more.
VicHealth’s Rebecca Ahern said the idea is to increase access to physical activities for women.
“This Girl Can is all about celebrating what women can do, whether that’s a walk around the block or a few laps of the pool,” she said.
“This Girl Can Week is here to support women to get back into exercise and enjoy the feeling of moving their body again, whether it’s the connection of being part of a team, the peace found through yoga or the freedom of going for a run or ride.
“There’s no judgement if you haven’t exercised in a while, all that matters is that you give it a go.”
Starting with a launch event on Monday, 12 September at Lake Weeroona at 4pm, Sports Focus have put together a timetable of activities.
Parks Victoria will host a relaxed guided walk through the Greater Bendigo National, while BCHS’ exercise physiologists will hold two walks at Ewing Park.
Local studio Vitality Yoga will guide beginners through two different sessions, a twilight yoga and yoga in the bush.
Meanwhile, Achieve It Health and Fitness will provide an introductory session on using outdoor exercise equipment at Long Gully Recreation Reserve, and those interested in tennis will have four opportunities to have a hit with the Eaglehawk Tennis Club.
All sessions are free and can be registered at sportsfocus.com.au/this-girl-can-week-2022.
