Wellbeing works go on show
WORKS from an amateur art class went on show to the public recently.
The Art for Wellbeing class was started by artist Kim Lowe 18 months ago, and her students now have an exhibition, 2inspire Creatives, at Exhibit B Central.
“After COVID, I identified the need to provide opportunities for people to come together again, to reduce loneliness and encourage connections within the community,” said Lowe.
“As an artist, I was keen to share my skills, so I facilitated a nine-week beginner art class for two hours per week.
“Upon completion of the program, participants had made genuine connections, felt encouraged and supported in their art and learnt basic watercolour and acrylic painting skills.
“The feedback was that all participants wanted to continue on a weekly basis, so we did.
“This program was supported by the City of Greater Bendigo as part of their Social Prescribing Program and was a great success.”
One of the artists, Kerrin Yates, said she’d loved attending the classes due to the support of Lowe and the other students.
“It’s given me the confidence to put a little piece of myself out there. Thank you so much for your encouragement,” said Yates.
Lowe said the collection includes are range of watercolour, pencil, oil, and acrylic pieces and will be on show until Monday 16 October.
The Art for Wellbeing class is held each Monday from 1pm to 3pm at Rotary Gateway Park Function Centre and all materials are provided.
Aspiring artists can contact Lowe about joining the class via her website 2-inspire.com.au.
