THE Bendigo Writers Festival will once again be a winter event, returning to the town next August.

For the last few years, the multiday celebration of all things words, and more has taken place in early autumn.

The rescheduled event will run from Friday 16 August to Sunday 18 August in 2024 and manager of Bendigo Venues and Events, Julie Amos, said it will be a new chapter for the festival after the departure of long-time director Rosmary Sorensen.

“While change is inevitable, the festival remains committed to building on Rosemary’s impressive legacy and the rich history of thought-provoking discussions, engaging authors, and a vibrant atmosphere that has enthralled audiences for years,” she said.

“There will be an opportunity for participation by school groups, programming for kids, celebration of Bendigo and the region’s UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy status, a pop-up bookshop, and great sessions with a wide range of writers, and lovers of words.”

Ms Amos said having the festival in winter better fits with other events which are on in Bendigo during this time.

“August is a great month to hold the festival with our heated venues providing a cosy atmosphere for up-close interactions, our venues located within walking distance on View Street, and of course the exceptional food and wine that Bendigo and the region has to offer during winter,” she said.

“The Bendigo Writers Festival has become a cornerstone of the region’s cultural activities, attracting both local and national talent, as well as book lovers from all walks of life.”

Tickets are expected to go on sale for the 2024 event next May along with the release of the names of writers taking part in the festival.
