Youth council applications open
RESIDENTS between fourteen and twenty-four are being encouraged to join the City of Greater Bendigo Youth Council.
The City is looking to fill four positions for a one-year term, with the roles set to include local young people in key decision-making processes.
Current youth councillors have held positions on the Creative City of Gastronomy Advisory Committee, the Bendigo Safe Community Forum and as part of the City’s Economic Development Strategy.
2021 Youth Council mayor Jack Smith said he has enjoyed advocating and providing a voice for young people to impact policies, plans, strategies and projects.
“As a youth councillor you get to have a say on important issues in the community,” Mr Smith said.
“It’s also a great opportunity for young people to meet others with similar interests and ideas, build our leadership skills and develop the knowledge and abilities to influence change.
“We’ve had the chance to develop knowledge in teamwork, meeting processes, organising projects, public speaking, advocating for change and consulting with our peers.
“I encourage young people to apply as they will learn so much and have the opportunity to be involved in some really great projects.”
Applications close midnight Sunday, 12 December and are available at bit.ly/3cGh8qc.
