Metricon’s Regan comes in 12 façade choices and is part of the builder’s wide range of new home options.

Metricon has been named Australia’s number one home builder for the sixth year in a row with the release of the HIA COLORBOND Steel Housing Top 100 Report.

The 2020/21 Top 100 report, which ranks Australia’s top 100 residential builders based on the number of home builds commenced each year, saw Metricon top the list with a total of 6052 starts across Victoria, Queensland, NSW and South Australia.

HIA Chief Economist Tim Reardon that the past year has been a remarkable year for home building and an outstanding result for Metricon.

“We are seeing a record number of detached homes commence construction while at the same time, apartment construction is in the midst of a significant slump,” Mr Reardon said.

“The majority of builders increased their number of dwelling starts in 2020/21 compared to the previous year.

“In this market, it is not surprising that detached home builders have dominated the list of the most active home builders in Australia.”

Metricon CEO Mario Biasin said that they recognise their fortunate position in an economic climate that has been challenging for so many others.

“Despite lockdowns, materials shortages and construction pauses, 6052 Australians have still chosen Metricon to build their new home across the last year, and we feel humbled by their support,” Mr Biasin said.

“The Federal Government’s HomeBuilder scheme, lower interest rates, and increased consumer desire to live in new homes, many away from high-density areas, have facilitated a huge surge in demand for new detached homes.

Metricon CEO Mario Biasin said that despite lockdowns, materials shortages and construction pauses, 6052 Australians have still chosen Metricon to build their new home.

“We’re in a very fortunate situation to be ranked number one for the sixth consecutive year and to have grown Metricon’s share of the national residential build market during this boom time for construction.

“This is a demonstration of the dedication of our national team, our passion for what we do, and most importantly the Australian families we do it for.

The report shows that the loss of overseas migration last year hit the apartment market almost immediately.

Overseas students, tourists and migrants often stay in multi-unit dwellings when they first arrive in the country.

This trend was exacerbated by the shift in consumer preferences towards lower density housing.

With this boom in home building, the minimum number of homes required to make it onto HIA’S Top 100 list has rose from 108 to 125, the highest in the 28 years that the report has been released.

Mr Biasin said that their customers have and always will be their top priority, and it is an honour that Australian home buyers continue to trust Metricon with the most important purchase of their lives, even during a global pandemic, it’s what drives them to continually improve design, construction and customer care.

“Our site starts increased by 33 per cent year on year, that represents another 1518 families building a new home with us this year or an additional 29 each week.

“We have learnt so much along the way about managing COVID-19 lockdowns and have extensive safety procedures in place to keep working safely and efficiently.

“We agree with the state and Federal governments, that vaccination is the most pragmatic pathway to a life out of lockdown, consistent business operations and keeping our employees, trades and customers safe.”
