Ascot is a rural residential suburb seven kilometres north-east of Bendigo’s CBD now very popular with young families and boasting one of the youngest median ages in the region.

In 1854 the Bendigo Jockey Club was formed and chose a venue north of Bendigo for its race meetings.

It’s thought that the famous English racecourse, Ascot, inspired the place name.

Epsom, the name of another English racecourse, is immediately west of Ascot, on the other side of the railway line from Bendigo to Echuca.

The racecourse is in the south-west corner of Ascot, and it is adjoined by the Bendigo Golf Club – established in 1901 – and its golf course.

The Bendigo racecourse, extensively remodelled in 1998, has 23 meetings a year including the Bendigo Cup.

The eastern side of Ascot is occupied by the Bendigo Regional Park.

CoreLogic data indicates that the predominant age group in Ascot is 0-9 years with households being primarily couples with children and are likely to be repaying on average $1517 per month on mortgages.

In general, people in Ascot work in a professional occupation.
