Maiden Gully is about 41.7 square kilometres and has four parks covering nearly 4.9 per cent of total area.

The population in 2011 was 4401 people and by the 2016 it had grown to 4953, showing an increase of 12.5 per cent in the area during that time.

Maiden Gully is a rural residential township and district on the Calder Highway seven kilometres west of Bendigo.

It was the site of a gold discovery in 1859 and was associated with nearby Myers Flat.

The origin of Maiden Gully’s name is unclear, the actual gully is in a forested area one kilometre north of the township.

For its first 63 years the Myers Creek school intermittently opened and closed, indicating the small population of the district.

After re-opening in 1938, with its present name, the school has functioned continuously, and had over 190 pupils in 1998, 418 in 2006 and 494 in 2014.

This four-bedroom Maiden Gully home sold recently for $815,000.

Maiden Gully has a caravan park, the Balgownie Vineyard opened in 1969, a hall, a recreation reserve with football, netball, cricket and tennis clubs, the Eaglehawk golf course and a general store and post office.

Plans were made in 2014 to subdivide a site on Edwards Road for housing development and the land was rezoned from farming to residential.

CoreLogic data indicates that the predominant age group in Maiden Gully is 0-9 years with households being primarily couples with children and are likely to be repaying $1800 – $2399 per month on mortgage repayments.

In general, people in Maiden Gully work in a professional occupation.

In 2011, 90.4 per cent of the homes in Maiden Gully were owner-occupied compared with 89.2 per cent in 2016.
