Sailors Gully is approximately 4.3 square, in 2016 the population was being 711 people and by the 2021 Census it had risen to 743 showing an increase of 4.5 per cent in the area during that time.

Sailors Gully, previously called Nerring, is an outer northern suburb of Bendigo nine kilometres north-west of the city centre and immediately west of Eaglehawk.

Gold was discovered at Sailors Gully in the first half of 1852, possibly by a sailor or sailors who had deserted their ships and set off for the gold diggings.

Sailors Gully was part of Eaglehawk borough from 1862 and the first school was opened in 1855 by the Church of England.

This three-bedroom Sailors Gully home built in 1990 sold recently for $472,000.

It was replaced by a government school in 1874 and is now named Eaglehawk North Primary School.

The school on Sailors Gully Road is where most of the village’s public buildings have been found.

At the bend of the road near Growlers Street there was the Sailors Gully Hotel circa 1866 which was rebuilt in 1908.

Sailors Gully gold heritage is found at the New Moon Quartz mine site (1860) in Beelzebub Gully Road, off Growlers Road and is heritage listed and includes above ground structures built in the 1890s.

CoreLogic data indicates that the predominant age group in Sailors Gully is 60-69 years with households being primarily childless couples and are likely to be repaying $1000 – $1399 per month on mortgages.
