Aspect of the fixture frustrating

KANE Cornes is frustrated that we still have overlapping games in the AFL fixture.

Round 8 saw the GWS v Essendon and Gold Coast v St Kilda games overlap on Saturday afternoon, as well as the Bulldogs v Carlton and Lions v Dockers games on Sunday.

On top of that, two big Saturday night games – Melbourne v Sydney and the Showdown between Port Adelaide and Adelaide – also overlapped.

Cornes, who worked the Swans/Dees game for SEN on Saturday night while the Port/Crows game is going on, can’t understand why the fixture is still laid out in such a way.

“How ridiculous is it that we have overlapping games in the fixture?” Cornes told SEN SA Breakfast.

“There’s seven days in a week, nine games that need to be fixtured, do we need have overlapping games?

“On Anzac Day we had the early Sunday game, the Anzac Day game and a Sunday night game. Perfect.

“Surely we could have shifted the Melbourne versus Sydney game to Thursday night, had a standalone Showdown and everyone is happy.

“It’s really disappointing. I’ll have the TV on in the commentary box.”

There will be no Thursday night games until the next block of the fixture, despite its rampant popularity early in the season.
