Girton Grammar's Abbey Reid will be a top chance for a medal in steeplechase.

SCHOOLS from across central and northern Victoria will be strongly represented at this weekend’s Australian All-Schools field and track championships in South Melbourne’s Lakeside Stadium.

The four-day meet sponsored by Chemist Warehouse started yesterday.

All four clubs under Athletics Bendigo Region’s umbrella will have young stars in action.

The Bendigo Senior Secondary College Lions will be represented by Avery McDermid, under-18 3000m; Hailey Stubbs, under-18 hammer; and Chelsea Tickell, under-17 800m and 1500m.

Clubmates at South Bendigo and BSSC students, Jasper Seymour and Kai Norton will be two of the leading contenders in under-17 throws.

Norton will contest hammer, javelin and shot put.

Seymour’s campaign is in discus and hammer.

On the track there will be Crusoe College’s Felix Burgess in the under-15 200m hurdles, and under-14 100m, 200m, and 90m hurdles.

Sacred Heart Kyneton’s Tyler Fynch will be one to watch in the under-16 3000m and 1500m.

Another leading medal contender will be Girton Grammar’s Abbey Reid in the under-18 2000m steeplechase.

Those soaring at pole vault include Rhys Hansen from Nathalia SC in the under-18s final and Bendigo South East’s Jordyn Lewis in the under-15 class.

Catherine McAuley College will be represented by Mila Childs in under-15 long jump, and Asher Miller in the Para under-20 800m.

The in-form Tate McQueen from Marist College Bendigo will contest the under-14 3000m walk.

Girton Grammar’s Kate Wilson will be aiming to fly high in the under-17 high jump and pole vault.

Echuca Moama Athletics Club has Tahlia Blight from Moama Anglican Grammar in the under-16 400m and 800m, and VRQA’s Hannah Downward in under-16 high jump.

Harrison Sly from St Joseph’s Echuca will chase gold in the under-17 400m hurdles showdown.
