Students face test at Lakeside

MANY of Athletics Bendigo’s young stars will be at this weekend’s start to Athletics Victoria’s All-School track and field championships at South Melbourne’s Lakeside Stadium.

Some of the leading medal prospects include Jake Gavriliadis from Maryborough Education Centre in the under-17 discus, shot put, and triple jump.

It’s been a great start by the Bendigo Harrier to this season’s AVSL action.

Weeroona College in White Hills will be represented by Kai Norton in the under-14 shot put, and Jasper Seymour in the under-14 discus.

Bendigo South East’s squad includes two sets of siblings in the 1500 metres

Chelsea and Logan Tickell will race at under-14 and under-17 level, and Ebony and Mason Woodward in the under-15 and under-17 classes.

The BSE Dragons also have Avery McDermid in the under-15 1500 metres and Cooper Richardson, under-14 100 metres and 400 metres.

A top medal contender will be Harrison Boyd from Bendigo Senior Secondary College in the under-18 1500 metres where opponents include Angus Macafee from Bendigo University AC and Geelong College.

Also representing BSSC Lions are Phoebe Lonsdale, under-18 1500 metres, and Max Rowe, under-17 1500 metres.

Catherine McAuley College in Bendigo will be represented by Caitlin Evans, under-18 400 metres, Eliza Evans, under-14 discus, Genevieve Nihill, under-16 1500 metres, and Daniel Noden, under-17 high jump.

The Marist College Bendigo squad includes Tully Lang, under-17 1500 metres, Charlise McQueen, under-14 1500-metre run, 3000-metre walk, discus, shot put, and triple jump, and Tate McQueen, under-14 3000-metre walk.

Also bound for Lakeside are Eaglehawk SC’s Amber Fox, under-16 discus, Girton Grammar’s Abbey Reid, under-15 1500 metres, and Kate Wilson, under-14 high jump and 3000- metre walk.

East Loddon P-12 will be represented by Ava Maxted in the under-16 2000- metre steeplechase.

St Joseph’s Mildura student Scarlett Southern competes with Eaglehawk in AVSL, and will contest the under-16 400m at Lakeside.

From Notre Dame College in Shepparton, Reeve Evans will contest the under-16 100-metre hurdles, and Castlemaine Secondary College’s Jack Nuttall will race the under-17 100 metres.

A non-AVSL meet will be run this Saturday from 1pm at Flora Hill.
