Battle of bridges at Machine’s ground
IT’S the battle of the bridges as Bridgewater and Newbridge meet the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football League’s sixteenth round.
The fourth-placed Bridgewater had the bye last weekend and will start favourite to take the points at home.
In round seven, the Mean Machine won by 52 points as Luke Harrison, Jack Symons and Andy Collins were best.
Newbridge goes into this match after an eight-goal loss at home to Bears Lagoon Serpentine.
Key players for the Maroons include Caleb Argus, Austin Fithall and Caleb Sanders.
Back at their home ground, Mitiamo faces a danger game against Maiden Gully YCW Eagles at John Forbes Oval.
The Superoos will be fired up after a 20-point lead at three quarter-time of last Saturday’s match at Pyramid Hill ended in a five-point loss.
Mitiamo’s best against the Bulldogs were Daniel Mowat, Doug Thomas, Lee Dale and Nathan Twigg.
Eagles’ veteran Steve Turner marked his 300th senior match for the club by being best afield in a 105-point win against Calivil United at Marist College.
A key defender for most of his career, Turner went into attack in the final term and kicked six goals as Nathan Murley, Jessi Lampi, Corey Walsh and Mitchell Dean also starred for the Wayne Mitrovic-coached Eagles.
The margin when these clubs met in round seven in the Eagles’ nest was 11 points in favour of the Superoos.
Bears Lagoon Serpentine faces a daunting task against Marong on home turf at Gadsden Finance Serpentine Reserve.
BLS won at Newbridge by 48 points with coach Justin Laird, Bailey Harrison, Harry Gadsden, Josh Walsh and Darcy Poulter were best.
Marong forward Brandyn Grenfell kicked a season-high 18 goals in the home win against Inglewood to now be on 129 for the year.
The Panthers best against the Blues included Nathan Devanny, Jimmy Gadsden, Cory Jacobs, David Johnstone and Lachlan Lee.
Calivil United is at home for its clash with Pyramid Hill and after a drubbing from the Eagles, the Demons face an even tougher opponent this Saturday.
Best for the Demons in the clash with Maiden Gully YCW were Jack Burns, Alex Daniels, Jake Lawry, Corey Pearse and Mitch Avard.
The Nathan Fitzpatrick-coached Bulldogs had to fight hard to overcome Mitiamo and did so through the play of Dylan Collis, Mitch Cheesman, Bryden Morison and Ben Dalton.
Inglewood has the bye.
