Big games across Indigenous Round
THE showdown between Eaglehawk and Kyneton will be a highlight as the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football Netball League marks Indigenous Round this Saturday.
Eaglehawk FNC will be banking on a big turnout as the Borough tackle an in-form Kyneton at Canterbury Park in Simpsons Road.
Eaglehawk’s victory against Sandhurst at the QEO to complete the split sixth round has kept in touch with the top three.
A stunning seven-point win by Kyneton at home against Golden Square has put the yellow and black in fifth place.
Now the challenge for the Paul Chapman-coached Tigers is to show that performance was not a one-off.
Key players for the Tigers include Dean Bartrop, Ben Cameron, Frazer Driscoll, Rhys Magin and Cameron Manuel.
They face a tough task against the Travis Matheson-coached Hawks line-up that includes Joel Mullen, Ben and Sam Thompson, Lewin Davis and Clayton Holmes.
Feature match of the round is at Golden Square’s Fur Life Oval in Wade Street where the Bulldogs tackle Castlemaine.
After a 4-0 start, the Christian Carter-coached Bulldogs will be snarling after being beaten by Sandhurst and Kyneton the past two rounds.
Expect big games from the likes of Jack Geary, Hamish Morcom, Jayden Burke and Joel Brett.
It’s a massive challenge for a Castlemaine line-up that includes Liam Wilkinson, Tommy Horne, Bailey Henderson, Tom Cain and Will Moran.
South Bendigo’s tough run does not become easier.
After a 106-point loss at Gisborne, South Bendigo is back on Queen Elizabeth Oval to face a red-hot Strathfieldsaye.
The Bloods will look to Kaiden Antonowicz and Brock Harvey to lead the attack; Cooper Leon, Liam Byrne and Nathan Horbury in midfield; and all-round team pressure in every quarter.
A formidable Storm line-up includes Kallen Geary, Jake Moorhead, James Schischka, Caleb Ernst, Baxter Slater and Jye Formosa.
Kangaroo Flat tackles unbeaten league ladder Gisborne at Dower Park.
The Roos chalked up win number two at Castlemaine as Mitch Rovers, Liam Collins, Pat Murphy and Lachy Wilson led the way.
Gisborne is not only scoring plenty of goals, but limiting the opposition.
Players to watch for the Bulldogs include Josh Kemp, Brad Bernacki, Braidon Blake, Jack Reaper and Scott Walsh.
Maryborough is at home on Princes Park to take on Sandhurst.
A premiership-winning player with both clubs, Maryborough coach Rick Andrews will have the Magpies fired up for a strong showing against a Dragons team on the rebound from defeat.
