Big match for Goers, Kangaroos
THE clash between the eighth and seventh-placed Bendigo and Kangaroo Flat highlights tomorrow’s (Saturday, January 18) first XI action in the Bendigo District Cricket Association season.
Round eight will feature one-day contests from 12.30pm.
The Goers and Kangaroos are both locked on 18 points in a tightly-congested premiership race.
Bendigo dominated last Saturday’s match at McDonald’s Oval in White Hills to beat the Demons by seven wickets.
A Goers’ team which includes Patrick Blandford, Nathan Fitzpatrick, Bailey Goodwin and Brodie Reaper will be on home turf at Lead Advisory Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street.
An unbeaten 91 by Riley Burns inspired Kangaroo Flat to victory on Bendigo United’s turf at Harry Trott Oval in Kennington.
The Roos were 6-68 in reply to the Redbacks’ score of 9-190.
A 47-run stand between Burns and Brent Hamblin was followed by an unbeaten partnership of 50 by Burns and Aidan White (10 not out) to clinch victory.
Another crucial match will be at Pegasus Pitstop Oval in Huntly’s Strauch Reserve where Huntly North takes on Golden Square. Both teams took the points last round.
An unbeaten 107 by captain and opening bat Ryan Grundy led Power to victory on Eaglehawk’s turf in Canterbury Park.
Golden Square dismissed Strathfieldsaye for 79 and reached 6-80 in the 31st over on a day.
Eaglehawk is home at National Heating and Cooling Oval to face Strathdale-Maristians; White Hills faces Bendigo United at McDonald’s Oval; and Sandhurst takes on Strathfieldsaye at Bendigo District RSL Oval in Weeroona Avenue.
