Blues meet Roos in big clash at Inglewood
IT HAS not happened for many years, but the Inglewood and Mitiamo showdown carries match of the day status in Saturday’s fifth round of the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League’s senior footy season.
Victorious in three matches, Inglewood is fourth on the ladder and has home-ground advantage at Dissy Machinery Oval to take on the second-placed Mitiamo.
The Darrell Billett-coached Blues won last Saturday’s match on Newbridge’s turf by 25-points, but know the intensity will be higher for longer against the Marcus McKern-coached Superoos.
Players to watch for Inglewood include Charlie Ingham, Cody Stobaus, Bregon Cotchett, Campbell Love and Alex Lowe.
Mitiamo was under fire from the Calivil United Demons for a lot of their match at Calivil.
The Superoos turned a 10-point deficit at half-time into a nine-point win as Lee Dale, Ross Turner and Kyle Patten led the way.
Newbridge takes on a Marong line-up on the rebound from defeat with the Maroons having home-ground advantage at Holloway Air Riverside Park in Newbridge for this clash.
Newbridge will need Harry Whittle, Chris Dixon, Jack Clark, Mitch Hocking and Corey Van Aken to win plenty of contests.
Marong’s powerful attack was well held by Pyramid Hill, so expect the Panthers to be fired up from the first ball-up.
Bridgewater is at home against Calivil United.
The Rick Ladson-coached Mean Machine won at Serpentine by 28 points as the experienced Darren Clutton played a starring role, along with Andy Collins, Tyler Estrada and James Naughton.
Big challenge for Bridgewater will be stop Jacob Greenwood who has kicked seven goals in the Demons past two matches.
Other players to watch for Calivil United include Ben and Jack Daley, Ben Baker and Evan Ritchie.
The unbeaten Pyramid Hill should be too strong for Maiden Gully YCW on the Bulldogs’ patch at Mitchell Park.
The Nathan Fitzpatrick-coached Bulldogs showed plenty of determination, run and skill in their win at Marong.
Braidy and Ryley Dickens led the attack, while Brad Ladson, Jake Willcocks, Billy Micevski, Bailey George and Steven Gunther are capable of setting up or finishing plenty of moves.
The Eagles had the bye after an eight-point loss to Newbridge on home turf at Marist College in round three.
Key players for the Wayne Mitrovic-coached Eagles include ruck-rover Jessi Lampi, ruckman Chris Howgate, key forward Jason Butty, Ryan Strauch, Steve Turner and Hamish McCartney.
Bears Lagoon Serpentine has the bye.
