Caleb’s set for Paravolley duels in China
IN a wheelchair or on the floor, Bendigo’s Caleb Logan has mastered all sorts of sports.
The 27-year-old has earned a place in Australia’s team for next month’s Paravolley Asia Oceania Club Cup Tour in China.
Logan and his team-mates will be bound for Hangzhou on October 21 and will contest a series of matches from October 25 to 31.
For the Bendigo athlete the seated volleyball tournament will be a great chance to develop skills which one day may lead to competing in the Paralympics.
Logan was inspired by many of the outstanding performances across the Paris Paralympics.
“To be selected for my first Australian team is really exciting,” he said. “A main goal of this tour is on player development.”
Most recent matches for Logan were representing Victoria at the Australian Paravolley Championships at Bendigo’s Red Energy Arena.
The Victorians traded digs, blocks and spikes against opponents from ACT, Western Australia, Invictus Veterans, and Japan.
“It was an amazing experience,” Logan said.
He answered a late call-out from AFL mate Chris Henderson to try for Victoria’s team and is now preparing to wear the green and gold.
A finalist in Bendigo’s Sports Star of the Year award, Logan has excelled in Wheelchair AFL for Essendon, and also starred in wheelchair basketball.
“Volleyball is another great challenge.
“Serving is one of my major strengths.
“I need to do a lot more work on setting. At the moment I am setting with one hand, but the goal is to use both hands.
“There is a lot to learn and keep improving.”
Logan said Paravolley was incredibly fast-paced.
Logan said support from family and friends had helped him achieve many of his sporting goals.
Away from the court he racks up the hours training at Golden Square-based Thrive Fit.
Once the Paravolley Cup is complete he will prepare to contest another AFL Wheelchair nationals campaign at South Pine Sports Complex in Brisbane in November.
Logan and his Big V team-mates won gold on the Parkville courts in Melbourne in 2022.
This year’s Toyota AFL Open will include matches for wheelchair, and inclusion.
