Clubs mark another footy first on QEO

May 31, 2024 BY

TWO football clubs with a rich history, Sandhurst and Eaglehawk meet in a senior women’s footy match for this first time this Sunday.

The Dragons and Hawks will play at Queen Elizabeth Oval from 1pm as the Champions IGA-backed CVFL league marks round eight.

There’s plenty at stake for the Andrew Saladino-coached Sandhurst which goes into the game a win and more than 68 per cent behind the fourth-placed Eaglehawk.

A Hawks’ line-up coached by Molly Metcalf, playing, and Geoff West has achieved a four-two record.

Eaglehawk dominated last Friday night’s home game against White Hills.

Best for the Hawks were Molly Metcalf who kicked eight goals; Shelby Faulkner, five goals; Jess Dover and Cass Coleman.

The Dragons will be fired up after a 69-point loss in Saturday night’s match on Golden Square’s turf at Fur Life Oval.

Key players for Sandhurst include Ruby Campbell, Amanda Carrod and Chloe Taylor.

In Sunday’s other matches starting at 1pm, Winslow White Hills Demons host North Bendigo at Winslow Constructors Oval in Scott Street, and Woorinen is home against Golden Square.

It’s second against third as the Nathan Manuel-coached Golden Square makes the long trek north to play Woorinen.

In-form players for Golden Square include forward Paynton Jolliffe, captain Liz Watkins and Courtney Hingston.

They are up against a Tigers team led by Samantha Johnston, Sophie McClelland, Brydi Lewis, Leonie Schulz and Jenna Bannam.

Marong Panthers will be home at Malone Park to take on Castlemaine from 1.30pm.

Bendigo Thunder has the bye.
