Cold can’t keep yachties off course

Julie Kerr took second on the day.

NOW that the colder months are here many may consider that sailing is off the agenda and yachts have been stored away.

This is not the case at Bendigo Yacht Club on Lake Eppalock where once a month the hardiest of sailors take to the water to race in organisation’s winter series.

Recently four trailer sailors and two dinghies sailed the first race in a 12-knot breeze and perfect winter conditions.

Chas Thompson from Cairn Curran Sailing Club led the fleet in his Impulse dinghy Fire in the Sky. Second place was Julie Kerr in a Europe dinghy.

Battling it out for third and fourth places were Doug Carswell and crew Michael Anthony, in the Timpenny 6.7 UOME and Russell Denholm and crew in the Castle 6.5 Relentless.

All sailors thoroughly enjoyed their day as did those spectating. Winter racing will be held at the Club on the third Saturday afternoon of each month, with next races set for 20 June.
