Come ‘n try athletics on at Lar Birpa

September 27, 2024 BY

ATHLETICS Bendigo Region will run a free come ‘n try day of field and track action today at the Lar Birpa complex in Flora Hill’s Retreat Road.

As many take advantage of the AFL grand final eve public holiday, Athletics Bendigo will open its headquarters to newcomers, those contemplating or comeback, or regulars in the build-up to the AV Shield League season.

Entry for this meet is on-line only via the Athletics Bendigo website.

First events on today’s program will be at 1.30pm and may include two waves of discus, shot put, high jump and long jump.

Track action includes the 100m, 1500m, 400m and 3000m.

For many it’s a chance to try field and track for the first time, while others continue their build-up to the October 5 start of Athletics Victoria’s Shield League season.

There will be 10 rounds of AVSL run across spring and summer.

A dominant force at Athletics Victoria’s country championships for many seasons, Eaglehawk was runner-up in premier division last season.

South Bendigo, Bendigo Harriers and Bendigo University are also represented each week in a wide variety of disciplines.

Lar Birpa is where Olympic marathon runner Andy Buchanan, and multiple Australian champion Emma Berg have excelled many times.

Day one of AVSL kicks off at 1.30pm. Register and enter via the AB website.

Little Athletics begins October 5 at 5.30pm for the under-10 to under-17 age groups.

The meet on October 6 for under-6 to under-9 starts at 8.30am at Lar Birpa.
