Conti wows crowds in Bulgaria
AEROBIC gymnast Ruby Conti capped hundreds of hours training when she represented Australia at this month’s Plovdiv Cup in Bulgaria.
The year 11 student at Bendigo’s Girton Grammar marked her final international meet at junior level by being among more than 500 elite gymnasts from 19 countries.
Conti’s outstanding skill earned the Maxine Crouch Trust Fund award in Bendigo’s Sports Star of the Year awards for 2019-20.
“It’s an honour to wear the green and gold, and be selected by the Australian Gymnastics committee to compete at the Plovdiv Cup,” she said.
“It’s an always an exhilarating experience to participate,” she said of being at one of her sport’s biggest events”
A fall in training meant Conti had to lessen the difficulty of her routine and while she ultimately missed a place in the top 20, she said she was rapt to complete a clean routine.
“Training with the Bulgarian national team was a great experience,” she said.
Conti y first represented Australia as a 10-year-old in the United States and has also competed in Czech Republic, Portugal and Japan.
Her lead-up to the Plovdiv Cup included being captain of Girton Grammar’s teams at the AeroSchools National Championships on the Gold Coast.
All of Girton’s teams gained a top six placing in their section.
It was an intense training workload for Conti as she prepared to compete in Bulgaria.
She was in was in Melbourne four times a week where she had three-hour training sessions coach with Angela McMillan.
There were also Bendigo-based training sessions at Palmer’s Gym and F45.
