Cooking up award win
KANGAROO Flat PS has edged out Goornong Primary for the Fosterville Gold Mine Healthiest School award.
Kangaroo Flat principal Kim Saddlier said the school has a number of health and wellbeing initiatives in place that look to positively impact change in the dietary and physical health of its students.
“We have cooking classes for students who will taste and try different things,” she said.
“We are now expanding that to include families to come in and have cooking classes with our canteen manager and that has been quite a success.”
Ms Saddlier said the award was well deserved recognition for the school and its team.
“It’s fabulous,” she said. “It’s such a great acknowledgement for what is happening at school and the health and wellbeing team that have worked so hard with our families and students.”
Ms Saddlier said the school has plans to expand on the already successful initiative.
“We really want to have some form of community garden in our school and then have the whole experience of that farm to the fork process for our students and families,” she said.
