STEFAN Martin has signed a new contract with the Western Bulldogs.

The veteran ruckman has committed to the club for the 2022 season after initially signing a one-year deal when joining from Brisbane in late 2020.

Bulldogs list boss Sam Power praised Martin’s influence at the club, particularly his time spent working with developing talls Tim English and Jordon Sweet.

“Stef has already had a significant impact on our program both on and off the field in such a short period of time,” Power said in a statement released by the club.

“To have Stef sign on for a further season is great – he’s an experienced player with a wealth of attributes, and is a great support and mentor for both Tim and Jordon. He gives our midfield group so much confidence when he plays.

“We’re excited to see what he can do in 2022 with hopefully a clear run of injuries.”

Martin, 34, was restricted to nine games with the Dogs in 2021 due to shoulder, groin and Achilles’ injuries, returning for the preliminary and grand finals.

He enters his 15th season at AFL level having played 57 games for Melbourne (2008-2012) and 133 for the Lions (2013-2020) for a career total of 199.
