Fighting Miners honour life member
DEB Ensor has been recognised for her near thirty years of dedication to the Fighting Miners Rugby Club.
Club president Garry Valente presented Ms Ensor with the honour, making her the 22nd, and first female, life member in the club’s 51 years.
Ms Ensor was “extremely proud” to receive the award.
“I am extremely privileged and honoured to receive such a distinguished award,” she said.
“It is something I never even dreamed of. It is wonderful that our club appreciates not only players but also those often behind the scenes and for that to be recognised.”
Since the mid-1990s, Ms Ensor has worked across multiple roles in the club, including in the canteen on match days, and serving on the committee.
Currently she wears multiple hats, as the Fighting Miners’ treasurer, inclusivity officer and public officer.
She said she is honoured to be a part of the club’s rich history.
“It still feels quite surreal,” she said. “I hope I can live up to the reverence that club members have for life members. To now be a part of those special members is very humbling.”
The Bendigo Fighting Miners Rugby Club finished sixth in this year’s season, cut short due to COVID-19.
The club currently preparing for next season, looking to win their 15th Victorian Rugby Union championship.
