IT will be a finals-type intensity as Sandhurst and Eaglehawk clash in Friday night’s start to round 17 in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy competition.

It’s a first semi-final prelude as the fourth and third-placed Dragons and Hawks take to Queen Elizabeth Oval in View Street from 7.15pm.

Both are locked on 36 premiership points.

Their only meeting so far in the home-and-away series was in round eight when the Molly Metcalf-coached Eaglehawk scored a 63-2 win at Canterbury Park.

A fortnight later and the Andrew Saladino and Liam Ireland-coached Sandhurst ended Castlemaine’s lengthy unbeaten streak in a 68-60 victory on the Magpies’ turf at Camp Reserve.

Key players for Eaglehawk include Grace Edlin, Lucy El Hage, Caitlin Evans, Lexie Moss and Abbey Willcox.

As Eaglehawk had the bye last Sunday, Sandhurst marked a 63-11 win in the Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons’ den in Scott Street.

Best for the maroon and blue against the Demons were Lara Bish, Ruby Campbell, Paynton Jolliffe, Varlee Nihill, Katie Walker and Neve Pinner.

Round 17 will be completed on Sunday when two matches start at 1pm.

Bendigo Thunder will be on home turf at Weeroona Oval in Napier Street to take on White Hills.

It’s an all-Bulldogs showdown as North Bendigo tackles Golden Square at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street.

Reigning premier Castlemaine has the bye, along with the Marong Panthers.

In the Champions IGA-backed CVFL under-18s girls competition it will be Sandhurst against Eaglehawk in Friday’s match at Queen Elizabeth Oval from 5.30pm.

The Dragons fired up to win last Sunday’s match at White Hills by 74 points.

In this Sunday’s play, White Hills will be at home against Kangaroo Flat, and Strathfieldaye hosts Woorinen at Triple M Park in Tannery Lane.

Golden Square has the bye.
