Finals prospects to rise or fall

January 31, 2025 BY

THE finals prospects of many teams in the Bendigo District Cricket Association’s first XI action will hinge greatly on this Saturday’s start to the 10th round.

All two-day matches will start at 1pm.

Some upset results in the finale to the run of one-day contests last Saturday meant a switch in several positions.

A highlight of the 10th round will be the showdown between first and second-placed Strathdale-Maristians and Sandhurst at All Seasons Oval on Strathdale’s Bell Oval.

The Suns will be desperate to bounce back from consecutive defeats.

It will not be an easy task against a Dragons attack led by Taylor Beard, Rylea Jones and Liam Bowe.

Key players for the Suns include opening batter Daniel Clohesy, captain Cameron Taylor, James Barri and Ben DeAraguo.

Golden Square will be on home turf at Haymes Paint Shop Oval in Wade Street against Strathfieldsaye.

Bulldogs coach Tim Wood struck a century in last Saturday’s win against the Suns and will be keen to perform well against his former club, as will captain Liam Smith.

In-form players for the Campbell Love-led Jets include Chathura Damith, Ben Devanny and Savith Weerasinghe.

Eaglehawk and Huntly North will be desperate to take the points as they are sixth and fifth respectively.

The Hawks are at home at National Heating and Cooling Oval in Canterbury Park.

Bendigo faces a danger game against White Hills at Lead Advisory Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street.

The Goers were held to 9/174 off 45 overs in the clash on Bendigo United’s turf at Harry Trott Oval.

The same for Kangaroo Flat against Bendigo United at The Dispensary Oval in Dower Park.

The latest hit-out between the Roos and BUCCs ended in a dramatic win for Flat as Riley Burns sparked a lower-order fightback to chase down a target of 191.
