Hawks brace for Storm onslaught

BACK in third place on the ladder, Eaglehawk faces Strathfieldsaye in Saturday’s fourteenth round of senior footy in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo FNL season.

The Hawks are home at Canterbury Park to tackle Storm.

Eaglehawk starts the round two points clear of South Bendigo and the Darryl Wilson-coached Storm.

The Travis Matheson-coached Hawks will be ready for a Storm onslaught after last round’s 27-point loss to Sandhurst at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

There’s also the memory of this year’s fifth round when the Borough soared to a 13-goal win on Storm’s ground at Triple M Park.

Held goalless in his 200th game, Storm captain Lachlan Sharp will be fired up for a big performance.

Another key match will be Sandhurst against previous QEO co-tenant South Bendigo.

The Ash Connick and Bryce Curnow-coached Sandhurst must keep winning to stay clear on top of the ladder.

Latest showdown for the Graeme Wright Memorial Cup between the Dragons and Bloods ended in a 53-point win for Sandhurst.

The Nathan Horbury-coached South Bendigo is on the rebound from a 67-point loss to Golden Square.

Kyneton faces a resurgent Gisborne at Kyneton Showgrounds.

The Tigers won by 58-points at Maryborough last Saturday as Darren Chambers marked his first match as Kyneton’s interim coach.

Then coached by Paul Chapman, Kyneton won by two points at Gisborne in round five.

It’s another big test for the yellow and black against Gisborne which has won three in a row.

The Brad Fox-coached Bulldogs are eight points behind South Bendigo and Strathfieldsaye.

Kangaroo Flat is on its ground at Dower Park to take on Castlemaine and in round five the Roos took control after quarter-time to win by eight goals.

Key players for the Roos include Liam and Mitch Collins, Connor Evans and Ethan Roberts.

The charge for the Brendan Shepherd-coached Castlemaine is likely to be led by Bailey Henderson, Brodie Byrne and Matt Filo.

A red-hot Golden Square is back at Fur Life Oval in Wade Street to take on Maryborough.
