Hawks’ hour of power blitzes Roos

EAGLEHAWK unleashed a powerful second half to beat Kangaroo Flat in Saturday Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football League action.

The Hawks led 32-27 at quarter-time of their clash on home turf at Canterbury Park and by half-time the margin was up to 15 points.

The Travis Matheson-coached Two Blues then scored 4.3 to nil in the vital third term to have the game under control.

Led by the play of Joel Mullen, Noah Wheeler and Billy Evans, Eaglehawk added 6.3 to 1.4 in the last to complete a 119-48 victory.

Liam Marciano kicked three goals as the classy Wheeler also booted three to cap a great game.

The Roos’ attack was led by Jack Barras on three goals.

Best for the Borough included Lewin Davis, Brady Rowles and Ben Thompson.

Sam Barnes, Bryce Franzini, Jake Hywood, Ethan Roberts, Campbell Smith and Jack Barras played well for the James Flaherty-coached Roos.

The win moved Eaglehawk to sixth on the ladder, a win behind the fourth and fifth-placed Kyneton and South Bendigo who clash this Saturday at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

A highlight of the 12th round was the meetup between QEO co-tenants Sandhurst and South Bendigo and there was plenty at stake for the fierce rivals.

In a high standard and closely fought match, South Bendigo led by two points at quarter-time, 10 at half-time, and by two going into the final frame.

Brock Harvey kicked six goals in a best afield performance as the Bloods won 100-91.

The Dragons’ attack was led by Cobi Maxted who kicked four goals and Jasper Stewart and three.

Down the Calder, Strathfieldsaye won by 17 points at Kyneton with the in-form James Schischka kicking three goals for Storm.

Callum McCarty, Jake Moorhead and Ben Lester were Strathfieldsaye’s best in the 83-66 win.

At Camp Reserve, Gisborne won 137-20 over Castlemaine’s as Harry Thomas kicked seven goals.

Seb Bell-Bartels, Flynn Lakey and Matt Panuccio were best for the Bulldogs.

The league’s other breed of Bulldog, Golden Square won at Maryborough’s Princes Park by 163-points as gun forward Joel Brett booted 10 goals to be best afield.
